Circulation

The Middletown Public Library is a member of the statewide cooperating libraries automated network called Ocean State Libraries (OSL), which links over 50 public libraries in Rhode Island. Middletown Public Library cards may be used at other OSL libraries to borrow materials. Your card is your responsibility. It is not transferable.

  1. Obtaining a Library Card
    Visit the Circulation Desk to get a FREE library card. Patrons must present personal identification and verification of their current address. Acceptable ID for Rhode Island residents includes driver's license, car registration, utility bill, lease, checks or cancelled personal mail. A parent or guardian must sign registration form and present proof of address for children under 14 years of age. Acceptable ID for out-of-state residents who currently attend a college or school in Rhode Island full-time include a student ID, course schedule or a bill. Acceptable ID for residents of other states who are employed full-time in Rhode Island includes recent pay stub or tax receipt. Other out-of-state residents may obtain OSl card for a $115 annual fee. A cardholder is responsible for materials borrowed on their card. If a card is lost or stolen, the library is to be notified immediately. Replacement fee for a lost card is $1.00.

    Certain materials have limits on how many items can be borrowed at one time.

  4. Renewals
    Materials can be renewed in person at the library, over the phone or through the online catalog. An item cannot be renewed if someone else has a hold on it. Items can be renewed once with the exception of Inter-Library loan items, Video Tapes and DVDs, which cannot be renewed. A patron will not be able to renew any item online.if they have overdue fines. If a card is lost or stolen, please contact the Library. Patrons are responsible for materials borrowed on their card.
  5. Fines and Fees
    While all of the Library's programs and most of the services are free, charges are required for certain services, replacement of lost items or fines for overdue materials. The Library and/or OSL reserve the right to deny checkout priveleges to anyone who has overdue Library material from any OSL Library or owes fines of more than $5.00 at any OSl Library.
