Services & Policies

Circulation
Middletown Public Library is a member of the statewide Cooperating Libraries Automated Network called Ocean State Libraries (OSL), which links over 50 public libraries in Rhode Island. Middletown Public Library cards may be used at other OSL libraries to borrow materials. Your card is your responsibility. It is not transferable. Read more.

Meeting Rooms
At the discretion of the Library Director and/or the Library Board of Trustees, the Middletown Meeting Room is available to community groups for meetings of an educational, cultural and civic nature. All meetings are to be free and open to the public. Read more.

Public Access Computers
The Middletown Public Library provides several computers with access to the Internet for use within the Library, as part of its mission to provide services in a wide variety of formats to meet the information, education and entertainment needs of the community. Read more.

Book Store
The Friends of the Library operate a wonderful bookstore at the Library. Opened in May 2008, it has proved to be very popular. It is located off the foyer from the main entrance to the right. Read more.

Food For Fines
The Director began a Food For Fines program at the Library in December 2007. At that time the primary food bank for Newport County, The Martin Luther King Center in Newport, had approximately 100 registered clients. Because the time of greatest need occurs during the summer months, the Food For Fines Program was run again during June 2008. At that time the number of registered clients had ballooned to more than 650. Read more.

Middletown Discount Passes
The Middletown Public Library provides passes and coupons to a variety of educational and cultural destinations throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Passes and coupons can be obtained at the Circulation desk. Read more.

Anti-harassment
It is our policy to maintain an environment fee of intimidation, insult and harassment based upon race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin or disability. No employee shall engage in comments, jokes or name calling that is vulgar, offensive or profane or that may insult someone's religion, race, sex, color, disability, age or national origin. Rules of Conduct
The Library is supported by the taxes of the people of Middletown who expect our Library to be clean, comfortable and a safe place for selecting materials, reading, researching, studying, writing and attending programs and meetings. To this end, the Library is responsible for establishing rules of conduct to protect the rights and safety of Library patrons, volunteers and staff, and for preserving and protecting the Library's materials, equipment, facilities and grounds. In addition, the Library has a strong commitment to intellectual freedom and to freedom of access to information. Read more.
